Comparison of Environmental Literacy Levels of Pre Service Teachers

Özet
This study aims at comparatively determining environmental literacy levels of pre-service teachers studying in various departments. For this purpose, environmental literacy questionnaire was conducted to 864 pre-service teachers who attend departments of social studies, classroom teaching, and science education at Faculty of Education, Gaziosmanpasa University and department of geography education at Faculty of Education, Gazi University. Results of the study conducted through descriptive survey showed that geography pre-service teachers had the highest level of environmental knowledge and affective tendencies; social studies pre-service teachers had the highest level of environmental behaviors; classroom teachers on the other hand had the highest levels of cognitive skills. In addition, geography pre-service teachers were shown to have the highest levels of environmental literacy in the study.
