Özet
This study presents the measurement results of the environmental radioactivity levels for the Sebinkarahisar district (uranium area), Giresun-Turkey. The activities of 238U, 232Th, 40K and the fission product 137Cs in soil samples collected from 30 region surroundings of the study area were determined. The average values were measured as 115.27 Bq/kg for 238U, 106.83 Bq/kg for 232Th, 882.31 Bq/kg for 40K and 24.29 Bq/kg for 137Cs. The absorbed gamma dose in air was calculated as 154.57 nGy/h and found to be higher than the world average of 60 nGy/h. The average annual effective dose was calculated as 189.56 μSv/y, which is over the world average of 70 μSv/y. In situ measurements of the absorbed gamma dose in air have been determined. The average outdoor gamma absorbed dose rate was measured as 207.29 nGy/h and the average annual effective dose was determined to be 254.22 μSv/y.
