| IMPORTING OF THE 19TH-CENTURY PHILOSOPHY OF MATHEMATICS INTO THE OTTOMAN EMPIRE BY SALİH ZEKİIn the 19th century there were remarkable developments in the field of mathematics. One of them is non-Euclidean geometries and their philosophical implications which made an overwhelming impression on the mathematicians. Therefore, it is important to unearth the reflections of these developments, which were arisen in the field of mathematics all over the world, on the Ottoman Empire in order to make a contribution to the history of Turkish science. In this paper, the first volume of Dârü’l-Fünûn Lecture Series book by Salih Zeki (Sayar), one of the most distinguished mathematicians during the last years of the Ottoman Empire, is analyzed in terms of non-Euclidean geometries and philosophical approaches of contemporary mathematics. |
