Özet |
In this study, we assess the technically available lands and economic returns of developing shrub willow (Salix spp.) as a biomass crop in the Kastamonu Forest (KF) region. The potential planting area is based on the following constraints: road accessibility, land with≤ 20% slope, and discounts water bodies, existing areas of forest production and any land susceptible to landslides. We have used GIS for determination of the technically available lands, and the EcoWillow 2.0 economic model for the assessment of economic returns. We evaluated two biomass yields scenarios: 15 oven dry tonnes ha-1 yr-1, as a best case scenario, and 10 odt ha-1 yr-1, as worst-case scenario. Out of about 1.3 million hectares of total land area in the KF region, the technically available area is approximately 431, 446 ha. At a price of $50 per tonne (wet wt.) for biomass delivered to the plant gate, the internal rate of returns ranged from 10.7% to 16.4% for best-case scenario, and-4% to 8% for the worst-case scenario. A grower’s investment is likely to be paid back after 10 years for the best-case scenario. |
