Özet
With the influence of globalization, trade has changed and some developing countries have begun to become rising markets. Developing countries are becoming increasingly active in trade. Innovation, which will increase the added value of developing countries in particular, is an important factor in the firms of these countries. In the literature, it seems that innovation has become one of the important determinants of exports. In this context, the relationship between innovation and export performance is generally considered within the framework of R&D expenditures and patent numbers (For example, Amendola, et al.., 1993; Narula & Wakelin, 1998; Sanyal, 2004; Montobbio & Rampa, 2005; Castillo, et. al., 2011; Uzay, et. al. 2012). However, the success of innovative activities in a country does not depend solely on the efficient operation of R&D activities and the number of patents received. These variables are only an output of innovation. Because there are many interrelated factors involved in the innovation process. Especially in recent periods, innovation levels of countries are determined by innovation indices. Thanks to these indices, innovation determinants are handled by not only factors such as R&D expenditure and patent numbers, but also many variables (input and output). The Global Innovation Index (GII) is one of these indices. This index was first established in 2007 to determine the concept of innovation by a measure outside traditional criteria (INSEAD & WIPO, 2012: 5).
