| Temel SARIYILDIZ1*, Gamze SAVACI2 1Faculty of Forestry, Bursa Technical University, Bursa, Turkey 2Faculty of Forestry, Kastamonu University, Kastamonu, Turkey temel. sariyildiz@ btu. edu. tr Abstract: Main aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of green cover and the afforestation on some soil properties, soil organic carbon (SOC) and total nitrogen (STN) stock rates. Soils were sampled from (a) bare soil plot (BSP),(b) young forest plot without green cover (YFP),(c) mature forest plot (MFP) as control,(d) young forest plot with sainfoin green cover (YFP+ S), and (e) young forest plot with Dog rose (YFP+ R). The soil samples were analyzed for pH, water holding capacity, soil texture, dispersion ratio, bulk density, SOC, STN, extractable P and K. Results showed that the afforestation and the green cover significantly influenced the soil chemical and physical properties, reduced dispersion ratio and increased SOC and STN stock capacities. |
