| Kastamonu province is a region where the European-Siberian geography in the broad sense, and Mediterranean and Iran-Turan plant geography in the narrow sense. The existence of these three different plant geographies has allowed the spread of plant taxa, which characterize climates, in these areas. There are nearly 2000 plant taxa and over 200 endemic plant species within the province borders. The Kastamonu flora, which is shaped by the dominance of wooded plant species, differs from the other cities by the productivity of the forests. The karstic geological occurrences in the neighboring of coastline preserve endemic plant species. Forest areas with a closeness of 65% and the remaining forest opening areas are a source of nutrients to fauna elements of wildlife. It is necessary to bring the city of Kastamonu, which has protected areas of different status and biological diversity in the botanical tourism within a particular plan. The botanical tourism (plant observing), which is regarded as the geographical distribution of plants and the special interest of landscape values, has become one of the most widespread outdoor recreational activities that do not harm nature. In this study, potential areas of botanical tourism in Kastamonu were evaluated. It is expected that this kind of tourism which protects the environment, respects the prosperity of the local people and is sensitive to the natural areas, contributes socially and economically to the city of Kastamonu which has high potential of endemic species. |
