Özet |
Forest ecosystems present various goods and services such as timber, recreation, quality water, biodiversity, carbon sequestration, oxygen production and soil protection. Forest management focuses on the control of forest ecosystems based on the sustainable use of forest values without damaging ecological integrity. To achieve this vital task, it requires identification and quantification of forest values and use of decision support tools such as operations research techniques. This study tackles the integration of five important selected forest values like timber, water, soil protection, carbon sequestration and oxygen production in a small planning unit. Firstly, timber production values were developed by the help of growth and yield tables corresponding to commercial tree species. Other forest values were functionally linked to stand basal area. Forest values were integrated into different forest planning models including linear programming (LP) and goal programming (GP) and solved by a commercial matrix solver (LİNDOTM). Model outputs were presented considering the quantities at the end of the planning horizon and planning periods. Finally, it was concluded that mathematical optimization techniques can be used effectively in the process of multi-purpose forest planning and quantification of forest values other than timber. |
