| When sharp force injuries are on the anterior part of the neck, they are called cut-throat injuries. In these injuries, the origin is most frequently homicide, and generally there is only one deep cut. In cut-throats, the origin is rarely suicide or accident. In suicide, there are also hesitation cuts accompanying the cutting-edged implement wound, which is the cause of death. Our case is a 47-year-old male who was found dead at home. A fatal cutting-edged implement wound on the anterior part of the neck and accompanying hesitation cuts were observed in our case on autopsy examination. No toxic substance was determined at chemical analysis of specimens taken from the body. Cause of death was reported as lacerations to the pharynx, epiglottis, thyroid and deep muscle groups of the neck organs associated with a sharp force injuries external bleeding related to major neck muscles and resulting respiratory failure. According to the judicial investigation file, the subject drank alcohol since his high school years, he had attempted to commit suicide two years ago by cutting wrists of both hands and had paranoid thoughts such as being followed by people after him for the last 2 years, but did not receive any psychiatric treatment. This case is reported as of interest due to its origin. |
