Özet
Communities in many rural, coastal, and urban destinations in Turkey are affected somewhat by tourism. This paper focuses on the perceptions and attitudes of host communities living in the boundaries of the Küre Mountains National Park (KMNP) towards tourism development and tourism planning. The research was conducted in three towns, located in the buffer zone of the KMNP. The paper evaluates the positive and negative impacts of tourism development in the park. In this research a structured survey and semi-structured in depth interviews were conducted with residents, local authorities, and NGOs face to face. The perceptions of host communities indicate that tourism development in the KMNP is in the early stages of development in terms of Butler’s tourist life cycle theory. Results show that residents have consistently positive perceptions towards tourism.
