Özet
Like many places in the world steelmaking is the main refractory consuming industry, Fig. 2 shows the steel production trend in Iran since 1998 as well as a forecast for next few years. This data were collected from the governmental sources and modified by consulting steelmaking companies. Unfortunately in Iran there is no reliable source of information in metallurgical industries on refractory consumption. As shown in Fig. 2 steel production has steadily increased until 2008 and continued with a sharp rate afterwards. An annual production of 18 Mt may reliably be foreseen for 2014. There are several small plants already stablished in different cities and expansions of at least three major plants (Mobarakeh Steel Complex MSCo., Isfahan Steel Complex ISCo. and Khozestan Steel Complex KSCo.) are in the final stages. Although the raw materials and energy supply will not impose any negative impact in steelmaking trends, the modern technologies and some hardware however may slow down the pace. Tab. 2 shows the share of production along with the refractory demand in different steel companies [4].
