Özet
The debate on effective school management and on the role of the school principal as the manager and leader is ongoing. This chapter intends to shed light on these areas by examining salient aspects: school culture, processes that come into play whilst practising effective school management and leadership, as well as prominent theories of leadership. The efforts of the members of the organisation towards a common aim, moving with accepted value judgments, and making attempts to keep the organisational culture alive are all closely related to the leadership capacity and qualities of the leader as manager. School culture should be considered as a whole entity with its members sense of belonging to the school, the affirmed unity around a shared purpose, and the leadership qualities of the school principal as the manager.
