| Multilateral Development Banks (MDB), which are owned by the governments of developed and developing countries, are among the long-established institutions of the international financial system. In this respect, MDBS stand out as banks that provide long-term loan support to developing countries either globally or within a region. These banks are subject to a tripartite classification (global, regional and sub-regional), considering the region they cover. The first of these, global MDBS, are development banks that lend to several continents and cover almost all countries in these continents. The World Bank (WB) is the most concrete and unique example of this.Regional MDBS cover only one continent and almost all of the countries on that continent. Inter-American Bank Development Bank (IADB), Asian Development Bank (AsDB) and African Development Bank (AfDB) are examples of this. Other MDBS that are different from the first two are development banks for sub-regions. Sub-region MDBS are more focused on a limited region of the continent rather than the entire continent. The first example of this type is the Central American Bank for Economic Integration, established in 1960 (Delikanlı et al., 2018; Faure et al., 2015). The classification of MDBS, as mentioned above, based on the region they cover, enables realization of the process of under-standing similarities and differences between development banks on common grounds rather than broad individual assessments.
