| The development of the neuronal system is a long and highly complex process. Similarly, brain development, while it is part of this process, entails more complex molecular mechanisms and hormonal changes that are independent of this process. Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disease that is generally seen in children and adolescents. Psychostimulants such as methylphenidate (MPH) have been commonly used for the treatment of ADHD. However, atomoxetine (ATX), a non-stimulant noradrenalin (NA) reuptake blocker, is used as an alternative for the therapy of ADHD. Exposure to these drugs gives rise to behavioral, functional, and physiological effects on the brain during the postnatal developmental period.
