Özet
The European Landscape Convention defines landscape as an “area, as perceived by people, whose character is the result of the action and interaction of natural and/or human factors”(ELC 2003). According to Forman (1995), landscape is a mosaic where a cluster of local ecosystems is repeated in similar form over a kilometers-wide area (Uzun 2003). Landscape planning is a holistic process that takes place in stages. Ahern (1997) and Motloch (2001) hold the view that landscape sustainability can only be achieved through the rehabilitation and restoration of degraded landscapes, improvement of landscapes and adoption of a holistic approach regarding future decisions. From the 2000s onwards, landscape planning has increasingly become a multidisciplinary endeavor, involving many different vocational aspects at every stage of the process (Çetinkaya and Uzun 2014; Öztürk and Tönük 2013).One of the subfields of landscape planning is landscape rehabilitation. Landscape rehabilitation was first introduced in the mid 19th century through vegetation with a view to eliminating the damage caused to the ecosystem by the railroads and highways in European countries. This concept was later named by Howard T. Odum as ‘ecological engineering’for the first time in 1963 and 1971 (Şahin et al. 2014). Görcelioğlu (2002) defines landscape rehabilitation as the improvement of landscape in rural and urban areas for cultural purposes, rehabilitation of the landscapes that are degraded through natural or human factors and implementation of biological and technical measures with the aim of mitigating negative consequences as much as possible …
