Özet |
This study deals with the military operation conducted by the Islamic Army of Caucasus under the command of Nuri Pasha to Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, on 15 September 1918 to prevent the oppression on Muslim community practiced by the occupation forces including the Armenian, the Russian, and the British. The subject of the study is limited to and discussed under the titles of the military operation to occupy Baku and the reclamation of independence in National Republic of Azerbaijan and Northern Republic of Caucasus. While evaluating the developments in the aftermath of the liberation of Baku, its reflections in the Ottoman Empire are also focused on. The gaps in literature regarding the subject were eliminated by use of primary sources. Relevant evaluations were made taking into account the conditions that affected the countries that took part in World War I along with the Ottoman Empire while the war was coming to an end. It was found out that despite the opposition by Germany, one of the allies of the Ottoman Empire, Baku was conquered by the Islamic Army of Caucasus under the command of Nuri Pasha upon the order of Enver Pasha, war minister, with an operation starting through the late June in 1918 and resulting in the conquest of the city on 15 September 1918. Thanks to this successful military operation, the region was saved from the massacre by the Armenian. In this way, both National Republic of Azerbaijan and Northern Republic of Caucasus regained their independence in real terms. |
