| This study focuses on Kastamonu City in XVIII and the first half of the XIX centuries as one of the important cultural centers in the Turkish cultural history, with its structure, development and its foundation institutions. For this purpose, in that period, religious education institutions, places of worship, charities and commercial buildings that constitute the bazaar center of Kastamonu city are elaborated on the basis of Hurufat Notebooks from the Ottoman archive documents. As it is known, since Hurufat Notebooks having an important place in the Ottoman bureaucracy in XVIII and the first half of the XIX centuries consist of small administrative units; the scope of this study was limited to this period. As a matter of fact, since Hurufat notebooks are kept on the basis of the small administrative units, they also provide remarkable information in terms of examining the center-rural relations of the Ottoman history for about 150 years. This study aims to reveal some important results about Kastamonu city with its organization, foundation institutions and the functions of these institutions in the city life. |
