Özet
It is crystal clear that, while the idealist takes soft power, the realist takes hard power as a vital attribute of global politics. Morgenthau’s psychological underpinnings of power conception indicate that power can be generated from material and non-material resources. While the former comprises the military, the latter includes diplomacy (Lee 2018, 1). The prominent global actors resort to either or both to achieve their objectives or fulfil their national interests. Whatever sort of power is to be adopted to obtain whichever motive depends on an architectural design by the policy thinkers of the country based on what they think might be possible and reliable. The premise that the nations’ motivations for gaining power are power struggle and an anarchic world justified the basis for more robust states’ invasion, colonisation and annexation of weaker states in international politics.In the history of geopolitical struggles, the world has witnessed several examples of expansionism, colonisation, invasion and annexation by the mightiest states on the weakest. The 1961 invasion of Cuba by the US with the complicity of the Cuban Democratic Revolutionary Front; the 1967 invasion of Egypt by Israel; the 1968 invasion of Czechoslovakia by the Soviet Union; the 1978 invasion of Tanzania by Uganda; the 1979 invasion of Afghanistan by the Soviet Union; the 2008 invasion of Georgia by Russia; the 2014 invasion of Gaza by Israel; and the 2022 invasion of Ukraine by Russia are some of the recent prime examples of
