Özet |
The aim of this study is to investigate the microstructure, mechanical, and oxidation properties of Mo matrix B4C and SiC-reinforced composites. Samples of Mo-SiC/B4C hybrid composite were manufactured by cold pressing and pressureless sintering from powder metallurgy methods. SEM-EDS and XRD tests were run to characterise the microstructure of the samples. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) was carried out to determine the oxidation behaviours of the samples at high temperatures. Hardness and wear tests were run in order to evaluate the mechanical properties of the samples. Besides, the samples' densities were estimated using the Archimedes’ principle. Wear tests of the samples were carried out according to the reciprocating mode. Mo, Mo3Si, MoC, Mo2B, and SiC phases were formed in the microstructure depending on the reinforcement type. The oxidation resistance of the samples improved at high temperatures upon the reinforcement of B4C. Through these intermetallic phases, hardness of the Mo matrix significantly increased. The highest hardness (245 HV0.5) was detected in the Mo-8% B4C sample. The wear resistance of the samples increased by adding SiC and B4C into the Mo matrix. The lowest wear rate and the lowest friction coefficient were determined to be 4.78x10−5 mm3/Nm and 0.654 in the Mo-8%B4C sample, respectively, while these values were measured as 5.83x10−5 mm3/Nm and 0.674 in the Mo-4%SiC-4%B4C hybrid composite. |
