EVALUATION OF KOH/ZnCl2 DOPED WASTE PISTACHIO SHELL CATALYST IN HYDROGEN GENERATION

Özet
In this study, the efficiency of PS-KOH-ZnCl2 catalyst synthesized by using waste Siirt pistachio shell (PS) in hydrogen production by methanolysis of sodium boron hydride (NaBH4) was investigated. In order to synthesize the most efficient catalyst, various chemicals were used as support material and the most efficient one was determined in the methanolysis experiments. Then, experiments were carried out to examine the effect of the molarity of the selected chemical on the efficiency of the catalyst. In the experiments carried out at the next stage, the optimum ZnCl2 ratio was determined by using different ratios of ZnCl2 in order to increase the efficiency of the catalyst. Finally, the effect of carbonization temperature and time applied in the carbonization process, which is one of the production stages of the catalyst, on the efficiency of the catalyst was investigated. The most active catalyst, PS, 3M KOH and 30% ZnCl2 mixture, determined at the end of these investigations, was synthesized by carbonizing for 60 minutes at 500 oC. Then, in order to obtain the highest hydrogen production by using the most effective catalyst, experiments were carried out at different NaBH4 amounts, catalyst amounts and test temperatures. The highest hydrogen production efficiency was recorded as 10917 mL min-1g-1.(Experimental conditions: 0.25 g NaBH4, 0.1 g catalyst, T= 60 oC, Vmethanol= 10 mL). Also the activation energy of the catalyst was calculated as 11.3 kj mol-1. The results showed that the waste peanut shell can be used quite effectively in the production of a versatile energy type such as hydrogen gas.
