Özet
Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a common complication during pregnancy that can lead to adverse outcomes for both the mother and the baby. Oxidative stress and inflammation play a crucial role in the development of GDM, as these two factors trigger each other, contributing to disease progression. Adherence to healthy dietary habits during pregnancy has been reported to reduce oxidative stress markers in both the mother and the newborn, positively influencing maternal-fetal health. A higher dietary inflammation index score has been associated with an increased risk of gestational diabetes, particularly in women who are overweight or obese before pregnancy. According to the Developmental Origins of Health and Disease (DOHaD) theory, early-life environmental factors can shape longterm health outcomes. Maternal consumption of a low-quality and pro-inflammatory diet has been linked to neurodevelopmental outcomes in offspring. The Mediterranean diet has been reported as the dietary pattern that significantly reduces inflammatory biomarkers. Similarly, the effect of the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) diet on oxidative stress has been attributed to its high content of antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables, as well as its elevated arginine content. Current evidence suggests that dietary patterns are critical in managing oxidative stress and inflammation in gestational diabetes. This review will evaluate the effects of different dietary models on inflammation and oxidative stress in gestational diabetes.
