Özet
In Obesity is recognized as a significant public health issue due to its increasing prevalence worldwide. Obesity triggers the development of various metabolic complications such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and inflammation. While the foundation of obesity treatment generally relies on low-calorie diets and increased physical activity, pharmacotherapy is sometimes utilized. Currently employed medications include orlistat, lorcaserin, phentermine/topiramate, and naltrexone/bupropion. However, due to these medications’ variable effectiveness and side effects, there is growing interest in using natural compounds. It is well-established that diet serves as a risk factor for chronic diseases. Therefore, discovering and evaluating natural compounds with minimal adverse effects for weight control are crucial. Research suggests natural polyphenols like curcumin could be effective and safe alternatives for managing obesity. Curcumin is a primary ingredient of turmeric, comprising 2-8% of most turmeric preparations. It is believed that curcumin provides health benefits through various mechanisms and biochemical targets. Studies support the notion that curcumin can induce weight loss and reduce the incidence of obesity-related diseases. According to current literature, curcumin has been shown to regulate lipid metabolism and suppress chronic inflammation associated with white adipose tissue, which plays a central role in obesity-related complications.
