Özet |
T urkish red pine (Pinus brutia Ten.) is one of the main tree species in Türkiye, and it is most widely distributed in Türkiye worldwide (Davis, 1965). It mainly establishes forests in the Mediterranean, Aegean, and Marmara Regions, but it also spreads locally in the Western and Central Black Sea Region (Odabaşı et al., 2004; Öner and Buğday, 2006). It is most densely distributed in Muğla, Antalya, Mersin, Adana, and Antakya cities, starting from sea level and spreading up to 1300 m above sea level, and in some regions up to 1500 m (Karatepe and Koyun, 2017). It is a significant tree species for Türkiye as it ranks first in distribution area and second in yield (Saatçioğlu and Pamay, 1962). The species is known as one of our country’s fastest growing coniferous species (Atay, 1990).Turkish red pine forms pure stands in large areas, but it also forms mixed stands in areas with high altitudes above 1000 m (Odabaşı et al., 2004). It creates mixtures with black pine (Pinus nigra Arnold), Taurus cedar (Cedrus libani), Taurus fir (Abies cilicica), and junipers (Juniperus spp.)(Genç, 2004). In Türkiye, Turkish red pine covers over 3 million hectares of productive forests |
