Özet
Investors are now turning to exchange-traded funds (ETFs) focused on renewable energy due to concerns about the environment, sustainability, and climate change. Renewable energy ETFs offer a diversified portfolio in this sector by typically focusing on wind, solar, hydroelectric, and other renewable energy resources. Instead of investing directly in renewable energy projects with these funds, investments are made in the stocks of leading companies in the sector, thus reducing risk. With the renewable energy-focused funds created by exchange-traded fund companies, on the one hand, financial resources are provided to companies operating in the renewable energy sector, while on the other hand, returns are provided to individual and corporate investors. This study aims to reveal the returns of renewable energy-focused exchange-traded funds. In this regard, the returns of renewable energy-focused ETFs were evaluated in the study. The study sample consisted of 9 renewable energy-focused ETFs traded on European stock exchanges. In the study, the annual fund returns of the funds for the 2021-2023 period were examined using the comparative analysis method. Amundi Global BioEnergy ESG Screened UCITS ETF was the highest-earning fund in 2021 and 2022. When the returns of 2023 were examined, it was determined that all ETFs caused losses. Invesco Solar Energy UCITS ETF was the fund that lost the most in 2023 with 31%. Amundi Global BioEnergy ESG Screened UCITS ETF gained 127% in the 3-year period.
