Özet
We can only convey the borrowed forest resources to next generations by responsibly and sustainably managing them. Sustainable forest management (SFM) is defined as administration of forest resources by safeguarding their existence, the biodiversity they nourish, regeneration capacity, livelihood and their potential in natural and international arenas, economic, ecological and social use they provide, while looking after the conformity with other ecosystem services (1). Akyol and Tolunay (2) affirmed and recommended the above definition as adoptable in Turkish forestry practice. Adopting sustainable forest management principles has forced the practice to follow strict regulations in the drafting and application of forest management plans, production and marketing of all sorts of forest products, timber and non-timber, in national and international scales, thus a certification initiative has been initiated just before the turn of the new century (3)
