Özet
Background YouTube is one of the most frequently accessed platforms for health information, yet the accuracy and reliability of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) treatment content remain questionable. Families seeking support may encounter unverified or misleading information that risks delaying effective interventions. Objective This study aimed to evaluate the quality, reliability, and overall usefulness of YouTube videos related to ASD treatment, with a particular focus on differences between professional and non-professional sources. Methods A structured YouTube search was conducted in July 2023 using predefined keywords. Searches were performed in Google Chrome (incognito mode, signed out of accounts, interface set to English, location standardized) and sorted by view count. From 1,407 identified videos, 114 met inclusion criteria after removal of non-English, duplicate, advertisement-only, music/no audio, and unrelated content. Each video was independently assessed by a child and adolescent psychiatrist, a psychiatric nursing lecturer, and a statistical analyst. Quality and reliability were evaluated using three validated instruments: the DISCERN scale, Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) benchmark criteria, and the Global Quality Scale (GQS). Inter-rater reliability was calculated using intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC). Results Overall, most videos were of low to moderate quality. Only 14.9% reached an "excellent" level on DISCERN and 20.2% were rated high quality on GQS. Academic and professional sources consistently achieved significantly higher scores than families, laypersons, or commercial entities ...
