| The decisions made at the urban scale can significantly influence the emission of greenhouse gases (GHGs) that contribute to climate change, which is one of the most crucial global challenges of our era. Concerns and initiatives to mitigate GHG emissions worldwide have generated increased awareness over time; however, there remains a need to diversify and disseminate specific guidelines for decision-makers. From this perspective, reduction policies applicable to diverse urban land uses become highly significant. This study proposes urbanization strategies for GHG mitigation within production areas, urban green infrastructure, urban transportation, housing, forestry, and energy dimensions. In addition to the inductive recommendations for various urban uses, principles that can mitigate the urban heat island effect have also been delineated. Concrete recommendations have been included in terms of planning and design. The proposed suggestions have synthesized existing knowledge to create sustainable urban environments that reduce city pollutant gases. Consequently, based on climate risks, a framework for emission prevention policies focused on pollution reduction and carbon sequestration has been established. |
