Özet
Sunflower (Heliantus annuus) is a very impor¬tant crop plant for vegetable oil production world¬wide and it occupies the first place as a source of vegetable oil in Turkey. One of the major limita¬tions for the production and yield worldwide is drought. This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of PEG-mediated drought stress on antioxi¬dant defense systems of two cultivars of sunflower (cv. Aydn and cv. Musala). Antioxidant enzymes (superoxide dismutase, ascorbate peroxidase, cata- lase, glutathion reductase), membrane damage (MDA concentration and electrolyte leakage), os- moprotectant (proline) and physiological changes (wet-dry weight and root-shoot-length) were eval-uated under control, 10% and 20% polyethyleneg- lycol (PEG600)-mediated drought stress conditions for both cultivars and two different tissues (root and leaf).
