Özet
Misconception is defined as attributing different and incorrect meanings to the rules in mathematics (Spooner, 2002). In cases where a mistake is a misconception, it has been determined that the answers received from the student have different structures that are not mathematically appropriate (Michael, 2002). On the other hand, if these wrong answers are due to reasons such as carelessness or calculation errors, the student has made a mistake (Spooner, 2002).The data processing learning area is one of the five learning areas in the middle school mathematics curriculum. It is recommended that studies on misconceptions in mathematics education include the data processing learning area and that more and detailed studies be conducted in the relevant field (Tortop, 2011; Türkdoğan, Güler, Bülbül, and Danişman, 2015; Şahinkaya and Aladağ, 2013; Yıldız et al., 2021; Tutak, Gün and Emül, 2010; Enisoğlu, 2014).
