| The essence of the term “Eurocentrism” lies in the assumption that Europe is at the heart of various fields like science, art, literature, culture, technology, and civilization. According to this understanding, the earth is reimagined in both a historical and geographical sense. Time experienced under Europe and the area northwest of the Mediterranean Sea are simultaneously privileged above all other cultures and societies. Areas outside of “the West” and time periods before the West come to owe their legitimacy to the West. According to this myth, all human achievements are superseded by either leading towards or becoming the product of Europe. Europe becomes the measure of human improvement. Norman Davies, in his book Europe: A History, writes that “Eurocentrism is a matter of attitude, not content”(Davies, 1996, p. 16).
